“Two thousand nine should be the year when the music industry stopped worrying and learned to love the bomb”

This is an interesting article from the NY Times on the new direction of digital download services.  Rather than a pay-per-song model that digital providers like Amazon and Apple use, there are set to be more services using a flat license fee that allow for unlimited downloads.  They will even be bundled into things like broadband subscriptions so the cost to the consumer could be completely disguised.  Still, many believe that the revenue generated from this will not replace the slow death of CD sales.  I love watching the empire burn, but I worry that even as the technology to make and distribute music gets more and more accessible and inexpensive, the ability to turn a profit from doing so continues to erode.  What do you think about this idea for distribution?
